Canadian Firearm Safety Course

The Canadian Firearm Safety Course is a prerequisite for anyone applying or renewing a Possession and Acquisition License ( previously an FAC). This course need only be succesfully completed once under present Federal firearm legislation.

The course has two primary aims:

  1. Firearm safety
  2. Federal firearm laws

The course involves about 8 to 12 hours of classroom instruction followed by two tests. The first is a 50 question written test featuring multiple choice and true / false questions. The second is a practical test which involves the student one-on-one with the instructor. The student displays his ability to safely handle a firearm.

All firearms / ammunition used in the course are rendered ineffective prior to student handling. Some instructors do, however, add a live-firing component to their course.
